How to make Vinaigrette Salad Dressing

It is very easy to make vinaigrette salad dressing. You just need to know the basic formula and you can make many variations

Difficulty level: Beginners

Instructions:

The basic formula for vinaigrette is:

3 parts oil to 1 part acid and a little salt

That’s it!

Now for the vinaigrette variations using the 3 parts oil to 1 part acid base

The 3 parts oil can be any oil.

Examples:
olive oil, vegetable oil, nut oils, such as walnut oil or small amount of sesame oil added to another oil

The 1 part acid can be acidic liquids.

Examples:
Plain or any flavored vinegars such as, wine, sherry, balsamic, apple cider, rice and others. Citrus fruit juices, such as lemon juice, orange or grapefruit juice

Other additions:

You can use plain salt or something with a salty taste such as soy sauce

You can add a slight sweetness by adding a small amount of different sugars, honey, or different syrups

Then there are the flavorings:

The sky is the limit! You can add: dried or minced fresh herbs, garlic, minced onion or shallots, citrus zest, finely chopped nuts, chili peppers, Dijon mustard, horseradish and many more flavors.

Italian Vinaigrette Recipe

3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1 small clove garlic crushed - about 1/2 tsp
1 Tbsp chopped fresh oregano or 1/2 tsp dried
1 Tbsp chopped parsley
Salt and black or white pepper to taste

Basic French Dressing Recipe

3/4 cup salad oil
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
Salt and black or white pepper to taste

Mustard Vinaigrette Recipe

3/4 cup salad oil
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
Salt and black or white pepper to taste

Tips

let it stand for 30 minutes to let the flavors blend - it separates when standing and needs to be mixed or shaken well right before serving

Warnings

Don't mix it in an aluminum bowl — the acid produces a metallic flavor
